Who are we ?.
We are a group of computer
enthusiasts meeting on a regular basis to discuss hardware and software issues.
Part of each meeting is devoted to helping members and their guests upgrade or
maintain their computers. We formed a group in the early 70's, many of the
founding members are still active in the Group. Friendships formed in those
early days are still strong nearly 30 years later. In the mid 80's we became an
Incorporated body under the new Communities Associations Act. We are also
associated with APCUG, a large international group of computer groups.
Where did we come from ?.
Although our origins are with the Tandy TRS-80™
and compatible (System-80) range of computers we are now mainly involved in the
IBM™ style of Personal Computers (PC's). Many of our members were and still are,
the movers and shakers in the PC and Communications industries. The basis of
their talents and expertise often being practical experience in a TRS-80 Mod I
Tape or Single Disk computer, or maybe a home based BBS for other users to dial
into on a 300baud Acoustic Modem and share information or interests. A number of
the current Internet providers started off in the days of home BBS's. In the
80's and 90's many serious engineering positions were held by former TRS-80
users. We still have University lecturers and engineers of all disciplines in our
membership. Most of the serious programmers originated in the TRS-80 era.
Where are we going to ?.
Because of the more specialized nature of computing these days our membership is
scattered wide and far. Although at a reduced level we should carry on for some
time yet as we have recently had an influx of younger members. The members
influence extends far beyond the Group activities through their support and
advice to family, friends and colleagues.
Where are we ?.
Our meeting place is :
Regents Park Community Centre Hall,
1 Amy Street, Regents Park NSW 2143
For actual meeting dates and times see HERE
If you accidentally find yourself at the old, yet famililar, 1st Sefton Scout Hall location, where we have been for the past 25+ years, then don't panic ... you're only 3 minutes away! From the Scout Hall, head east along Carlingford Street until you come to the very tiny roundabout at Regents Park station. Turn right at the roundabout, cross the railway bridge and turn left at the roundabout on the other side. Follow the road right into Amy Street, then take the first left onto Regent Street. If coming from the city, find your way onto Rookwood Road, turn into Amy Street towards Regents Park, and then turn right into Regent Street once you get to the shopping centre. The entrance to the carpark is 75m down Regent Street on the left site, with a sign that says "Regent Street Car Park" (the 4 hour time limit only applies to weekdays.) Go to the end of the car park, where it opens up near the playground - this is the closest area next to the community hall.
If coming by train to Regents Park Station, take the Bankstown line train from Lidcombe. If coming from Liverpool, you will either have to change at Lidcombe or Birrong, as trains from there do not run via Regents Park on the weekends. Upon alighting, turn left at the top of the footbridge, then left again into Guilfoyle Park. Walk to the left of the Library building, and behind it you will find the Community Centre hall.

If driving bring your PC,
if walking bring your Laptop, as there are plenty of benches and chairs to set up on. There are plenty of power outlets.
Power Leads and power boxes will be brought along to each meeting.
Regents Park shopping centre has plenty of variety for lunch, and Mary makes a beaut cuppa coffee.
All we ask is when you leave, please put away your table and
chairs, and return any "borrowed" stuff to a Committee member.
While you are setting up,
the Committee usually has a short formal meeting to deal with our
financial and other affairs.
In December of each year, we have an Annual General Meeting when amongst
other things a new Committee is elected for the forthcoming year. The AGM coincides with the Christmas party.
What do we offer ?.
Apart from our friendly
technical advice our main services to members are the Monthly Meetings and also
our regular Newsletter. The Newsletter is mailed out to members not usually
attending meetings, but is also available on this web site
